1 year Curriculum Roadmap

The Grammar of Design (Months 1-3)

Month 1 - Fundamentals of Visual Language

Focus: Understanding the building blocks: Line, Shape, and Color.

Week 1 (Drawing) / Line & Observation

Contour and gesture drawing to understand line weight and expressive power .

Week 2 (Drawing) / Shape & Form

Simplifying complex objects into spheres, cubes, and cylinders .

Week 3 (Design) / Point, Line, Plane

Arranging basic elements to create movement and balance in abstract compositions .

Week 4 (Design) / Color Introduction

Creating swatches to understand warm/cool contrasts and the psychological effects of color.

Month 2 - Perspective & Space

Focus: Creating depth and understanding spatial logic.

Week 5 (Drawing)/ 1-Point Perspective

Drawing interiors and exteriors using a single vanishing point .

Week 6 (Drawing)/ 2-Point Perspective

Drawing angled objects and streets to understand complex space .

Week 7 (Design)/ Proportion & Scale

Experimenting with size relationships to create visual hierarchy .

Week 8 (Design)/ Texture & Pattern.

Using repetition to create visual texture and rhythm .

Month 3 - Light, Shadow & Contrast

Focus: Capturing volume and controlling visual flow.

Week 9 (Drawing)/ Gesture & Movement

Rapid sketching to capture energy and flow .

Week 10 (Drawing)/ Chiaroscuro

Shading studies emphasizing light direction, cast shadows, and form shadows .

Week 11 (Design)/ Positive & Negative Space

Abstract compositions exploring the balance between subject and background .

Week 12 (Design)/ Color & Contrast

Testing complementary and triadic color schemes for visual impact .

Composition & Hierarchy (Months 4-6)

Month 4 - Spatial Composition

Focus: Organizing complex elements within a frame.

Week 13 (Drawing)/ Multi-Object Perspective

Applying perspective rules to complex still-life arrangements 

Week 14 (Drawing)/ Focal Points

Using scale and contrast to guide the viewer’s eye to the most important element .

Week 15 (Design)/ Material Representation

Rendering wood, metal, and glass textures in design sketches .

Week 16 (Design)/ Repetition & Rhythm

Creating visual rhythm through repeated shapes and colors .

Month 5 - Advanced Color & Communication

Focus: Using color strategically for emphasis and mood.

Week 17 (Design)/ Advanced Color Theory

Applying split-complementary and triadic schemes .

Week 18 (Design)/ Hierarchy via Color

Designing mini-posters where color defines the focal point .

Week 19 (Drawing)/ Complex Forms

Drawing overlapping planes and interiors using precise perspective .

Week 20 (Drawing)/ Texture Integration

Rendering light and shadow on complex, textured surfaces .

Month 6 - Layout Principles

Focus: Balance, proportion, and clarity.

Blocking in main shapes and refining final details for a thematic design project .

Month 11 - Contemporary Abstraction

Focus: Simplification and large-scale rhythm.

Week 41 (Drawing)/ Gestural Abstraction

Weeks 50-52/ Final Challenge & Portfolio

Solving a complex visual communication problem and curating the final portfolio .
