Week 6 (Drawing)/ Shadows & Reflected Light
Arranging objects under a single light source to study cast shadows, core shadows, and reflected highlights.
Week 7 (Painting)/ Acrylic Foundations
Mixing primary colors to create secondaries. Exploring thick vs. thin applications and creating a color mixing chart.
Week 8 (Painting)/ Acrylic Still Life
Creating a small still life starting with a monochrome underpainting, then adding warm/cool color contrasts.
Month 3

Focus: Perspective drawing and introduction to Oil Painting materials.
Week 9 (Drawing)/ One-Point Perspective
Understanding horizon lines and vanishing points to draw simple architectural spaces like a hallway or room.
Week 10 (Drawing)/ Two-Point Perspective
Drawing angled objects (books, boxes) at eye level and below, applying shading to enhance volume.
Week 11 (Painting)/ Oil Painting Introduction
Safety demo and palette setup. Mixing a limited palette (White, Ochre, Sienna, Ultramarine) to create a monochrome underpainting.
Week 12 (Painting)/ Oil Textures
Painting metal, fruit, and fabric. Practicing blending techniques and glazing to correct muddy colors early.
Composition & Expression (Months 4-6)
Month 4 Composition & Expressive Color
Focus: Building dynamic layouts and using color for mood.
Week 13 (Drawing)/ Dynamic Composition
Thumbnail sketching to explore balance, rhythm, and the rule of thirds versus asymmetrical balance.
Week 14 (Drawing)/ Unified Image
A complete still-life drawing emphasizing depth, composition weight, and a unified light direction.
Week 15 (Painting)/ Color Relationships
Complementary and analogous color studies. Experimenting with saturation/desaturation to create harmony
Week 16 (Painting)/ Mood & Emotion
Memory-based color interpretation project. Using expressive brushwork (referencing Matisse or Van Gogh) to convey emotion.
Month 5 Texture & Brushwork
Focus: Rendering complex surfaces and expressive paint application.
Week 17 (Drawing)/ Texture Rendering
Detailed study of glass, metal, fabric, and wood using crosshatching, stippling, and blending.
Week 18 (Drawing)/ Structural Unity
Arranging multiple textured objects into a cohesive composition, exploring value balance.
Week 19 (Painting)/ Expressive Marks
Practicing dry brush, stippling, and palette knife techniques to create energy and texture samples.
Week 20 (Painting)/ Impasto Techniques
Using modeling paste and thick paint application (Impasto) to create surface depth and physical texture.
Month 6 Portrait Fundamentals
Focus: Human proportion, anatomy, and realistic skin tones.
Week 21 (Drawing)/ Gesture Drawing
Rapid 30-second to 2-minute figure sketches to capture rhythm, speed, and movement.
Week 22 (Drawing)/ Proportion & Anatomy
Studying the "8-head proportion rule" and skeletal structure using mannequins or photo references.
Week 23 (Painting)/ Portrait Underpainting (Oil)
Blocking in major shapes using Burnt Umber/White. Focusing on value accuracy and construction rather than likeness.
Week 24 (Painting)/ Skin Tones
Mixing realistic skin tones using primary colors. Applying glazing for depth and refining features (eyes, nose, mouth) without outlining.
Advanced Rendering (Months 7-9)
Month 7 Advanced Still Life
Focus: Complex arrangements, transparency, and edge control.
Week 25 (Drawing)/ Complex Planning
Thumbnail sketches for a multi-object arrangement, adjusting spacing, focal points, and light hierarchy.
Week 26 (Drawing)/ Full Tonal Rendering
detailed graphite rendering emphasizing reflected light, cast shadows, and form shadows.
Week 27 (Painting)/ Watercolor Transparency
Layering washes gradually to capture light reflections on glass and metal surfaces. Learning lifting techniques.
Week 28 (Painting)/ Acrylic Realism
Focus on hard vs. soft edges and reflections. Using cool/warm contrast in underpainting.
Month 8 Landscape & Nature
Focus: Aerial perspective and atmospheric depth.
Week 29 (Drawing)/ Outdoor Sketching
Capturing perspective and massing quickly. Contour sketches of landscape elements.
Week 30 (Drawing)/ Aerial Perspective
Using tonal gradation and desaturation to create depth (distant objects appear cooler/lighter).
Week 31 (Painting)/ Oil Landscape Blocking
Broad brushwork to establish sky, middle-ground, and foreground masses. Initial glaze tests for atmosphere.
Week 32 (Painting)/ Detailing Nature
Using smaller brushes for foliage, reflections, and highlights while maintaining overall harmony.
